In the 19 days, 22 hours, 11 minutes, and 8 seconds since my arrival [plus the time delay between the start and uploading of this video], I have come across something very interesting through conversations with fellow Wardens and Inmates:

While there are a surprising many who have never heard of the Green Lantern Corps, even more surprising is the number of individuals who claim to fight for a similar cause.  I have heard words such as 'vigilantism' and 'heroism' used often, along with the concept of fighting against the law in order to do what is right.  

This appears to be a contradictory statement, however, and I wonder if I my auditory senses were malfunctioning or simply did not process the words correctly.

[She pauses, allowing this much to absorb before leading into her question.]

I am curious--are there many aboard who are familiar with Heroes of your respective worlds?  And what do you believe makes them Heroes?

Hey Lass, [ He had to reply to her. It was a good question after all.] A hero isn't always on the right side of the law, since often the law becomes corrupt. A heroes just someone who stands up against the wrong and protects the innocent.

I know a pretty big hero who happens to be on the ship with us if ya ever want to met a real hero. [ He totally means Angel.]

Some of them still like holding their cards close to the vest, but over twenty, depending on your definition of hero.

There are plenty of people on my world who fancy themselves heroes. But a whole lot less than claim to be actually are. The urge to do the right thing, whether it's illegal or dangerous or difficult, it just isn't very strong in a lot of them.

[She looks down, all but hearing in her head, I'm sorry, Wanda. Your father has legal custody of you, and as long as he chooses to keep you hospitalized, there's nothing I can do...]

Real heroes aren't biased, or cowardly, or more concerned with the status quo or their personal agenda than with people. They don't abandon those who need them. They don't stand by with their thumbs up their asses while people get abused. [her voice shakes.]

Real heroes are very rare. Especially on my world. Sometimes I wonder if there are any left there at all.

[Aya listens patiently to her story. She cannot empathize, but she can still understand the significance. The importance behind her words, perhaps even of personal significance. The need for reassurance.]

I can tell you with complete certainty that Heroes do exist. If not on your world, than on others. Many others.

Well, for one thing, he stops me from breaking the law, of course. And then puts me in jail, yadda yadda yadda... He's gone now, though. I was ruling the city through a campaign of terror but, uh. Now I'm here.

Metro Man was fully endorced by Metro P.D., though. He was never a vigilante. I mean, I suppose those were all very violent, public citizens arrests.

Am I correct in assuming you are not a Hero, then?

I've asked a few people similar questions and I feel like a lot of it comes down to if a person subscribes to relative morality versus absolute morality and all of their variations.

[She has already established him as a "good" person in her mind, though she still wants to know how he would answer such a question.]

[Ironically, if you'd asked this to the Luke prior to leaving, he might've given a somewhat different answer, but this Luke is arriving shortly after a law was passed that hit WAY too close to home.]

Most laws are born out of noble intentions, but some laws are born out of hate, ignorance, or fear. It's times like those when you have to do the right thing and protect the people when the laws and the establishment isn't doing it.

I know quite a few heroes from my world. I've actually fought alongside them on more than one occasion. What makes them heroes isn't related to any sort of special powers. It's the fact that they're willing to put their lives on the line to do what they think is right. To help people, even some of the worst scum imaginable. So really, anyone can become a hero.

So, what you are implying, is that there are certain laws that are inherently flaws based on intention.

Are you a Hero?

A vigilante is just a criminal who thinks they're doing good. They usually cause as much trouble as they stop. Some renegade Time Lords probably qualify as "vigilantes" but they're certainly not heroes to my world.

We don't have heroes on Gallifrey, we have good people who do their jobs.

I wonder if your definition varies from those of other worlds.

Universes are subject to an extreme amount of random variation. It's likely many of these universes do not have a Green Lantern Corps, though many may have something similar. Additionally, it's possible that the Green Lantern Corps may exist, but so far from a person's home planet they might not know of it. Or, a universe's Green Lantern Corps may not be at the same level of growth that yours is.

Some laws are made to disadvantage certain groups. This usually happens because laws are, at least in my universe, made by humans most of the time, and for all their wonderful features, humans with lawmaking power can often be short-sighed and selfish. So, in some cases it can be 'against the law.'

It would appear you are correct. I am beginning to wonder if the range of passengers aboard this vessel are not limited to a single Universe, based on the data I have currently gathered.

I am beginning to wonder just how great a difference there is between Law and Justice in many of these worlds.

They uphold the law of many worlds. That is their purpose and reason for existence.

It is also what I believe a Hero to be: someone who fights for the safety of others, regardless of personal risk.

Heroes are people who don't do anything until prompted by the correct sense of indignation, because that's how they've been told is the best way to live a life.
